1. Submit a preliminary application online (recommended)

Fill out the CNI pre-application to simplify the process at the town hall.
The CNI is free of charge, except in the event of loss or theft (in which case a €25 tax stamp must be purchased).
2. Make an appointment at a town hall equipped with the necessary facilities.

3. Gather supporting documents
On the day of the appointment, you must be present (including the minor and his or her legal guardian) with the following documents:
- CNI pre-application number (or the Cerfa paper form if you did not apply online).
- Recent passport photo (less than 6 months old) that complies with standards.
- Proof of address dated within the last year (utility bill, tax notice, rent receipt, etc.).
- Old identity card (in case of renewal).
- A €25 tax stamp if the previous card has been lost or stolen (otherwise it is free of charge).
- Any other documents specific to your situation (report of loss/theft, documents for minors, etc.).
